JJ&W helps
organizations solve problems and create opportunities with employees,
shareholders and interested publics. We do this with a behavioral
approach to public relations practice.
Our focus on
behavior comes from 1) understanding that outcomes need to be measurable,
and behavior is measurable, 2) understanding that awareness alone
rarely leads to behavior change, and 3) knowing it is the behavior
of our stakeholders that determines whether or not our organizations
will be successful.
We apply to
our work a wide range of theories and models drawn from the body
of social & management sciences. A cornerstone of our practice
is the Behavioral Public Relations Model, developed by our late
colleague and visionary Patrick Jackson. It integrates much of the
behavioral theory into one, simple and understandable model that
defines how behavior is stimulated by the use of "triggering
events."

JJ&W counsels
both in proactive and reactive situations:
Proactive: Through careful analysis
of your important publics, we work with you to:
- Get stakeholders to stop doing something
- Get stakeholders to start doing something
- Win stakeholder consent to let the organization
do something
We help our clients develop and nurture relationships
with key publics and "opinion leaders," providing a solid
foundation for support, two-way communication, and issue anticipation.
Reactive: Although the ideal situation
is to have a complete public relations plan already in place, JJ&W
can help your organization respond to an over-looked problem or
unanticipated crisis quickly and effectively. Our expertise is a
result of over 50 years of handling boycotts, strikes, media or
political attacks, accidents, plant or school closings, bond issues,
landfill expansions, rumors and other crisis situations.
JJ&W employs behavioral-based research to quickly
assess how your constituents will act or react in relation to the
situation your organization is facing. We use this information to
develop the most effective communication strategy given the organization,
situation, and desired outcomes.
We also help
clients manage the media attention their situation may attract.
Our counselors work with the organization's spokesperson to anticipate
media questions, develop key message points, and teach them to speak
with confidence during radio, TV, or print interviews.
